A vinyl or fabric tarp on aluminum bows that rolls forward to the cab and straps down.

Best for: People who haul often and irregularly, who want the bed genuinely usable, and who don't leave anything valuable in it.

Vinyl stretched over three hinged aluminum-framed panels that fold forward in sections.

Best for: The default 'good enough' choice. Owners who report long service lives are almost all in this category.

The volume premium category. Aluminum or composite panels on sealed hinges, folding forward and latching against the cab.

Also F1, G2, FiberMax and the Revolver X4s and X2 roll-ups, from $1,099.99 to $1,399.99 list. MX4: 400 lb, assembled in Missouri, the only hard folder its maker says does not block the third brake light. Warranty: 5 years on MX4, F1 and X4s; 3 years on G2, FiberMax and X2; original purchaser only. Weakness: the largest leak and QC threads in the category, mostly on earlier generations.

Retrax IX, RetraxONE MX/XR, RetraxPRO MX/XR, the EZ-OFF FRC-4000, the new Retrax EQ electric, and PowertraxPRO/ONE electrics, from $1,199.99 to $2,799.99. T-slot rails on the XR models are why Retrax dominates rack-plus-cover builds; the RetraxPRO XR is rated to 500 lb, latches in unlimited positions and is assembled in North Dakota. Warranty: lifetime no-cost replacement on RetraxPRO MX and XR, the strongest terms in the group; prorated lifetime on ONE and Powertrax models; 5 years on the EQ. Weakness: the canister takes about 10 to 11 in of bed, the warranty excludes water intrusion, and it voids if you lubricate the rails or fail to register within 30 days.

Its canisters are smaller than Retrax's: 8 in on the A-Series and 7.25 in on the E-Series, which also locks in any position. Assembled in Florida. Warranty: 3 years on M and A, 5 years on E; it excludes water intrusion including leaks from normal use, pays no labor, and ends if the cover is moved to another vehicle.

Warranty: Ultra Flex 5 years including hinges and seals; Flex 3 years; Elite LX and LUX lifetime on the ABS structure but only 1 year on gas struts and mounting hardware, the parts most likely to fail. Weakness: no guaranteed 100% paint match, and earlier Ultra Flex owners traced leaks to rail seals.

Solid Fold ALX uses 1 in EnduraShield TPO panels rated to 600 lb, the highest of any folder here, and is assembled in Michigan. Warranty: lifetime on Trifecta 2.0, Signature 2.0 and ALX, the strongest soft-cover terms anywhere; 5 years on Solid Fold ALX. Weakness: easy accidental voids for wind whip on an unsecured tarp, silicone cleaners, and towing with the cover installed.

Warranty: 7 years, prorated after 5, explicitly naming deck-panel separation, drive system and electrical components, the best powered-cover terms in the category. But it excludes water intrusion at any location.

Also sold through Toyota dealers as a Toyota part. Warranty: limited lifetime covering both manufacture and parts, the least-qualified lifetime term found. No substantive owner complaints surfaced.

Warranty: lifetime on Lo Pro, Pro X15 and Deuce; 5 years Sentry CT and TruXport; 3 years Sentry. Weakness: repair or replace only, no labor, and no warranty on used products.

Warranty: ACCESS 5 years top line, 3 years LiteRider and Vanish, 2 years TonnoSport; LOMAX 3 years; all parts only, with no labor, and ACCESS returns ship freight-prepaid at your cost. Weakness: LOMAX does not fold against the cab; owners say full access means lifting off a heavy, awkward cover.

Classic, Platinum, LimitedHD and LimitedHDx editions from $1,099 to $1,699, factory-direct; a newer Tectonic cover is rated to 400 lb. Warranty: 1 year Classic, the weakest term at its price anywhere here, 3 years Platinum, 5 years LimitedHD and HDx. Weakness: 300 lb distributed and 50 lb concentrated, Peragon says it leaks in sustained rain, and factory-direct means no dealer to arbitrate a dispute.

Risk: Q2 2026 brought record sales of $5.23m but a $3.97m net loss and only $1.16m cash against $12.07m of inventory. Buy it on the product's merits, not on the balance sheet behind it.

Budget to mid · RealTruck's price-fighter

From the SFX soft tri-fold and SRX soft roll-up at $199.99 through the EFX, FX and FX3 hard folders and HR1 hard roll-up to GatorTrax retractables from $1,599. The EFX is genuinely competent at half an MX4's list price ($599): multi-layer aluminum, automatic dual slam latches, single cable pull, 300 lb. Warranty: 2 years on the EFX, tied with Worksport SOLIS for the shortest published term here.

Two covers: the TonnoFold soft tri-fold at $199 and a hard tri-fold at $649. Warranty: limited lifetime on select products, but it expires if the cover is removed from the original vehicle or the vehicle is sold, and you pay the labor.

MB, MR, AR and ER retractables and a T-slot roll-up. The ER electric retractable was $1,699.15 on sale ($2,099 regular) against $2,129.63 for the cheapest RealTruck electric, the Roll-N-Lock E-Series. Warranty: 5 years on the ER, covering materials, motor function and workmanship. No long-term durability record was found.

Warranty: 5 years, but only for covers bought new from authorized resellers; used, Warehouse-deal and unauthorized-seller purchases are excluded. Owners report cheap Tyger covers holding up for years across several trucks. No published load ratings were found.

Fourth-generation hard tri-fold with no-drill install at $849.95 through a retailer. Warranty: 5-year limited, per the retailer listing. Rough Country's own site blocks automated reading, so its broader lineup and warranty exclusions were not checked.
