What wears out on a home golf simulator?
The mat's hitting strip and rubber tees go first, sometimes within months under heavy use; impact screens soften and stretch rather than tear; and projectors and PCs become obsolete before they fail.
A premium mat carries a 300,000-shot guarantee, and one four-plus-year ownership review reports minimal wear in the hitting area, but the built-in rubber tees on that mat can need replacing every two to three months with regular use. Budget for consumables rather than replacement.
Screens age gradually. Ball spin carries dust from the mat into the fabric, humidity and projector heat contribute, and wear concentrates where wedge shots land. Screen makers recommend cleaning high-impact areas, rotating the screen every few months to spread the wear, tensioning it enough to remove wrinkles without overtightening, leaving space behind it to absorb impact, and rolling rather than folding it for storage.
No source reviewed quantifies screen lifespan in shots or years, and Purchasd has not tested one, so treat any specific lifespan figure you find with suspicion.

How Much to Spend on a Home Golf SimulatorBy Purchasd Research. We compared current manufacturer and retailer product pages, independent review-site testing, owner forum threads (including thirteen Reddit threads read in full on 1 October 2026), and long-term ownership write-ups. Manufacturer and retailer pages established prices, specifications and subscription terms; independent testing established accuracy claims; owner forums and multi-year ownership reports established durability, service and used-market behavior. Prices are list or observed street prices on the dates given, not transaction prices, and several are promotional. Purchasd received no manufacturer payment, review units or affiliate consideration for this research. Several of the best-documented sources are retailers or manufacturers that sell the equipment; each is labeled by bias and, where possible, paired with an independent or owner source. Purchasd has not physically tested any of this equipment.
