Should you buy a used hybrid?
Yes in the two-to-four-year band, where 58-74% of the price has gone, provided the listing is the loft and shaft you actually need. In the first year the discount is often only about 27%, which is rarely worth giving up your specification and the warranty.
The economics are shallower than in drivers. One major retailer listed a year-old hybrid at $239.99 in average condition against $329 new, while a depreciation study of more than 300 clubs puts hybrids at 27% a year, 65.7% total, with an average resale of $82.
The main risk is not authenticity, it is specification. A used listing is a fixed loft, shaft, flex and length, and the whole point of this club is that it fills one specific gap. Buying a 22-degree club because it is cheap when the gap wanted 19 degrees is the most common way this purchase fails.
Assume no warranty comes with it: TaylorMade's two years cover the original owner with proof of purchase, Titleist gives one year, PING publishes no term, and four of the brands in this report are not covered by the comparison available at all. Counterfeit clubs carry no coverage under any circumstances, and the manufacturer's own warning sign is a low price from an unauthorized source.
Owners make the same case from the other direction: hybrid generations change little, so a previous model in your loft is often the same club for less. Check authenticity anyway, because counterfeit heads with valid-looking serial numbers have been documented.

Which Hybrid to Buy, and How Much to SpendBy Purchasd Research. We used independent human testing on a launch monitor as the primary performance evidence, a robot test and a controlled same-loft comparison for the hybrid-versus-alternatives question, manufacturer and retailer pages for prices and warranty terms, a 300-club depreciation study and a used retailer's listings for resale, and owner forum threads — two on the Golf Monthly forums and ten on Reddit — for how golfers actually gap, buy and use these clubs. Test figures are quoted with the outlet, sample and equipment that produced them. Prices are list or observed street prices on the dates given, not transaction prices. Purchasd received no manufacturer payment, review units or affiliate consideration for this research. The testing outlets and buying guides cited are affiliate-supported, and the used prices come from a retailer that profits from both sides of the trade; each source is labeled by bias. Purchasd has not hit a shot with any of these clubs.
