Should you buy a used golf simulator?
Buy the enclosure, screen, mat and projector used without much worry, and buy a used launch monitor only after confirming what software transfers with the serial number and what the same unit costs new today.
The components split cleanly by risk. Enclosures and screens retain 40-60% of value after two to three years, mats 30-50%, and projectors and PCs lose 20-30% a year, which makes all of them sensible used purchases; the failure modes are visible on inspection.
Launch monitors are different because the software is not in the box. A FlightScope Pro Package stays with the unit for life while bundled E6 licenses do not; SkyTrak transfers nothing and requires the seller to detach the device first; Garmin ties no subscription to the device but gives a second owner no warranty unless it is certified pre-owned.
Check today's new price before agreeing to anything. The SkyTrak+ now sells new at $1,195 against an earlier $2,495, so listings anchored to the old retail can cost more than buying new with a warranty.
