A brand ranking does not override the drivetrain. John Deere's own entry S180 uses the sealed K46 transaxle that owner threads associate with lost hill climb and snapped axles, and Deere's warranty runs from 2 years or 120 hours on that machine to 4 years or 500 hours on the X570. The reliable choice inside the second-ranked brand is the K58 X380 or K72 X570, not anything wearing the badge. Kubota's lead comes attached to a $12,399 diesel that only pays back on heavy annual hours.

Below the top two, the evidence is thinner. Cub Cadet is not in the survey's top tier for tractor-class mowers, and owners report hydrostatic failures at 35 and 69 hours on other Cub Cadet models, while some XT1 owners report hundreds of trouble-free hours with regular fluid changes. Those are anecdotes that describe failure modes, not failure rates. Reputation does show up in resale: brands that top reliability surveys hold their asking prices better used.
