Do hybrids hold their value?
Poorly in percentage terms and badly in absolute terms: about 27% a year and 65.7% in total, with an average new price of $227 and an average resale of $82 in a study of more than 300 clubs.
Hybrids depreciate slightly faster per year than drivers (26.8%) and fairway woods (24.2%), though their lower starting price means the dollar loss is smaller. Only wedges fall faster, at 28.9% a year.
Brand changes the slope more than model does. PING depreciates slowest of the brands measured at about 17% a year, while newer Japanese specialist brands fall fastest. Where you sell matters too: a nine-retailer comparison found a $70.94 spread in offers on one identical club.
The practical consequence is that a $330 hybrid is worth roughly $80 to $95 after two years, so the resale argument should not drive the purchase. Buy the loft that fits and expect to keep it.

Which Hybrid to Buy, and How Much to SpendBy Purchasd Research. We used independent human testing on a launch monitor as the primary performance evidence, a robot test and a controlled same-loft comparison for the hybrid-versus-alternatives question, manufacturer and retailer pages for prices and warranty terms, a 300-club depreciation study and a used retailer's listings for resale, and owner forum threads — two on the Golf Monthly forums and ten on Reddit — for how golfers actually gap, buy and use these clubs. Test figures are quoted with the outlet, sample and equipment that produced them. Prices are list or observed street prices on the dates given, not transaction prices. Purchasd received no manufacturer payment, review units or affiliate consideration for this research. The testing outlets and buying guides cited are affiliate-supported, and the used prices come from a retailer that profits from both sides of the trade; each source is labeled by bias. Purchasd has not hit a shot with any of these clubs.
